Web 2.0 is all about sharing. We all share our thoughts, photos and videos with one another. Web 1.0 the provider only supplied the information one needed with the pupil that wanted it. With web 2.0, everything is linked together. I often find this something a little bit annoying due to the fact that I do not have a personal Facebook. There have even been times when I was not able to use an app due to the face that I didn't have a personal Facebook. However, there are some advantages such as being able to information from one account to use on another. On Slide.ly, one can link to their Facebook and use pictures from their account to make a slide show. There were multiple applications that could be beneficial in the classroom on The Best Web 2.0 Applications For Education In 2012 — So Far.
The technology that we have thus far explored in KIN 710 has helped me more way than one. Through my Facebook fan page, I have been able to connect with my students and parents. LinkedIn will help me connect with many people in my field of work and also help me find a job when the time comes for me to move on from my current position. I hope to someday use podcasting in my classes. I have yet to find Twitter useful. How is everyone else using their Twitter accounts? Image retrieved from http://eduscapes.com/sessions/virtual/ February 2, 2014 Reading both of the articles took me back to 2006, when the iPod was huge, heavy! It is crazy to think that I had the first generation of iPods, and how far they have advanced in the past eight years. In reading History To Go: Why iTeach with iPods, it was stated perfectly, "We are encountering students who are more wired than ever before, and the more we take advantage of the natural comfort zones students, the more we may be able to reach them in educationally profound ways. Our teaching habits may have to adapt to theses new realities," (Vess 2006).
I have found podcasts very helpful throughout the program at FPU. I often downloaded lectures and would watch and listen to them while at the gym. I need to find a way to integrate podcasts into my jr high PE classes! References: Cebeci, Z. & Tekdal, M. (2006). Using podcasts as audio learning objects. Interdisciplinary Journal of Knowledge and Learning Objects. 2, 47-57. Voss, D.L. (2006). History to go: why iteach with ipods. The History Teacher. 39(4), 479-492. This is my new favorite YouTube video! Jack After Wisdom Teeth Removal I am guilty of always being on some type of electronic device! I left my phone in my car on accident tonight at the gym. When I realized that I had left it I instantly felt anxious. I didn't want to miss a phone call or a text! I fought the urge to go get it and worked out without my music. As time goes by, more and more of my students have cell phones and I find myself becoming more accepting of students having them on them and using them when they run to listen to music. As a teacher, one needs to adapt to the generational changes and this is "always on" is definitely one of them. I wish I could say that this generation isn't going to be dependent on their mobile device, but they will be. We need to make sure that we know how to use this to our benefit.
I agree with him when he says that it is not about finding out who you are, it's about creating who you are. Stop looking and do something that will make you what you want to be.
I am a goal oriented person. I love to run and just be active. I am not someone that can just sit at home all day and "relax" because that would be anything but relaxing for me. This past month I ran the 10k Volkslauf in Bakersfield. It only happens once a year. I have been wanting to do it forever but just kept putting it off. There are different races available. 5k & 10k individual and 5k & 10k team and also a 1 mile course for children. There are about 15 obstacles that you have to go through before you reach the end. I would encourage anyone and everyone to try it! It was an amazing experience!! |
